So I finally decided to upgrade from 10.10.5 Yosemite last weekend.

As I've found out, several have had problems with this upgrade.

The number one at the moment is that "Restart" does not work. I select it from the drop-down and the screen flickers as if it's going to restart, but nothing happens. I'm using an external HP w2207h widescreen monitor with my mid 2012 Macbook Pro screen closed 99% of the time.

When I open that screen, sometimes the desktop is there and sometimes it's dark and appears to be off.

I have to hold down my power button to force it to shut off. Then use it to power up.

I'm assuming this is a known issue but wanted to ask here.

Are there any fixes?

Also, are there any other issues/fixes I should know about?

Thanks.

Try doing a SMC and PRAM reset.

How does the computer act if you disconnect the monitor? You upgraded directly from 10.10.5 to 10.15? If you did, maybe you might want to consider doing a clean install of Catalina and migrate user data from backup.

Kudos to Taz!

I don't have an SMC reset, but I did the NVRAM/PRAM and that seems to have cured the issue. I was able to get a restart both with and without my external monitor connected.

Thanks for your help! ??
