So one thing i appreciate about osx in general is that you can restart or shutdown your comp, and when you come back, the app windows and desktops will reappear. But my problem is that the app windows don't go back into the right desktop (from mission control). They all clump and jumble in desktop 1 by default. So i have to manually place each window back to the desktop.

Is there a way for OSX to restore it as it was before i rebooted/shutdown/rebooted to bootcamp?

Once the application is open on the desktop you want it to be on, right-click it in the dock then go to options and select "this desktop". That should open the application on that desktop every time.

Thanks for the reply hallux. I change things arounf on my desktops all the time, with my varying workflow from day to day. Is there a way to just have it restore w/o having to pin it down to a certain desktop? Can OSX do it without me doing anything manually?
