Restore 2.2.1 (2.30.03 base) back to 2.2.0 (2.29.03)

Iphone 3g i got from At&t with firmware ( i'm not sure )
I jailbroke it, upgraded the firmware to (2.1.0 3G iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw). Cancelled contract with AT&T took the iphone to Tmobile place. Smartass jailbroke it to 2.2.1 and handed it back to me with Tmobile service working. This is some 2 months back. Today i called up Tmobile regarding poor internet connection, losing EDGE often, hearing static while recieving calls. Rep tells me take out the SIM card and re-insert it. OK i opened the SIM card tray and there is a plastic thing between the SIM and the tray. The rep tells me this plastic thing is what is keeping my iphone unlocked and the reason for all my probs. I ask him how can i properly unlock it. He says Yellowstone.

Sorry for the long story...but now i want to restore to 2.2.0 if possible. Can it be done. I tried and it would not restore to anything but 2.2.1. What to do guys ????

Did you figure it out? I just unlocked my Iphone 3G that had 2.2.1 firmware and orginally had 2.30 modem. But I downgraded my modem only to 2.28 and unlocked my phone. I tested it out at the Tmobile store and everything worked. Is that what you want to do? Or do you really want to get to 2.2 firmware?

This is what I figured out and did:

BACKUP YOUR PHONE TO ITUNES BEFORE YOU START ANYTHING!!!

Make sure your phone has firmware 2.2.1 and modem 2.30.

After you download those to your computer (Download them to the desktop for quick access). Follow the youtube video exactly how he shows you. It's really easy.

So you will Jailbreak first which is what the youtube video is. After you jailbreak your phone. You will see CYDIA app. You will follow these instructions after:

You phone must have 5.08 bootloader (This program will check for you, it wont work unless you have it. Hopefully you do. If you don't then you can't go any further. Your phone will just be jailbroken.

(This is the program that will downgrade your modem from 2.30 to 2.28. Your firmware will still be 2.2.1)

After if you have a tmobile sim card, place it in the phone and make sure your 3G is off and your phone calls should go through. I had to go to the Tmobile store for the rep to add something to the internet settings. But that you can just walk in and they can do that for you. In the mean time, you can verify the unlocking by seeing the TMOBILE logo on the signal bar and actually making calls.

I want to downgrade the base so i can download yellowsnow and unlock my iphone properly.

Now I have 3 choices infront of me....
1) download 3G fuzzyband downgrader from Cydia ( big boss repo) ......downgrade the base and then i think download yellowsnow and unlock the iphone ( which i duno how ) Ok did the 3g fuzzy band and it said "Not supported" bcuz my bootloader is 5.09

2) get a custom 2.2.1 firmware from pwnage (MAC) users so my base will be not change. (this i am doing right now ) from this site ....http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/04/upgrade-and-unlock-iphone-3g-221-with-custom-firmware/

3) Upgrade to 3.0 firm and wait for ultrasnow to jailbreak it and ....then do what ? what is the advantage of this ?

2 is not a choice. That won't help you unlock at all. 1 won't work because you don't have the right bootloader version, so 3 is your only option & best bet. Just wait a few days, it'll pay off.

I was going to attempt #2 I had downloaded the custom firmware but now I'm not going to...but just for the sake of argument. If u follow the link in #2 on hackintosh website they explain it very nicely and i will quote "if you upgrade your iPhone 3G 2.2 to 2.2.1 your baseband also upgrades from 02.28.00 to 02.30.03 Now the problem is you can’t unlock baseband 02.30.03 with any utility out in the wild. If you accidently upgraded your iPhone 3G to firmware 2.2.1 and you are on baseband 02.30.03 you can follow our guide for baseband downgrading. Download the iPhone 3G iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Custom_Restore.ipsw from Filesavr. This Custom Firmware excludes the baseband upgrade so you can be sure 2.2.1 will be compatible with yellowsn0w unlock. It also contains Cydia and Installer which requires later for unlocking. Once Download is finished follow the step two."
