iPhone Restore 6.1.3/6.1.4 backup to 6.1.2??

I'm on 6.1.4 and have everything the way I want (programs, sms, etc). I have an iPhone on 6.1.2 that I intend to Jailbreak (and I won't reset it this time...).

I read somewhere that if I backup the 6.1.4 phone to iTunes and modify some info file, that I can restore it to my 6.1.2 device.

Is this true? Is it safe?

Anyone have first hand experience with this?

If I cannot restore, is there any way to save my messages or game save stuff?

I think it depends on how much the iOS has changed between each version. For example, someone stated that SMS changed between 6.0.1 and 6.1 so just dropping the SMS.db file from a 6.1 backup won't work on 6.0.1

For game save files, use ibackupbot and export the game/app folder and put in the save files onto your device after you install the app

Text messages is the SMS folder at /var/mobile/Library

I just got my 6.1.2 iPhone today. I did a restore from my 6.1.4 iCloud backup. When the phone restarted and had the Apple logo and progress bar...I was soooooooo worried that it was updating me to 6.1.4!

It came back up and everything seems to be working fine and was still on 6.1.2. So, I was able to restore a 6.1.4 iCloud backup to 6.1.2.

For best practice, and to make sure I have no issues jailbreaking or after, is it okay to just jailbreak the restored 6.1.2 device, or should I wipe it first, jailbreak and not do any restore?

The most important thing to me is reliability, so if jailbreaking the iCloud restored device could potentially cause a problem, whereas a fresh device won't, I'll do that.

If you are syncing using iTunes, there is a way to trick your iTunes into letting you restore a backup made with a higher iOS version to a device having a lower version of iOS.

It involves finding the info.plist file from the backup directory (Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\<<username>>\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup), editing it with a text editor, and saving it.

You would locate this section of the Info.plist file:

<key>Product Version</key>
<string>6.1.3</string>

And update the string to match the version of your iPhone's IOS.

There's a possibility some apps make not be 100% restored due to minor version differences in iOS.

It should be okay to just jailbreak the device but if you are worried, you can make it brand new and jailbreakable by pressing the erase all contents option BEFORE jailbreaking and then jailbreak after
