Restore an M1 Air

I received a MacBook Air base model Tuesday. Decided to return it for the 512GB model as the 256GB wasn't working out for me. I could not seem to restore the computer so I could return it. The Command + R did not work on restart. Tried it several times. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

It’s different on the M1 Macs. "Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window, which includes a gear icon labeled Options. Select Options, then click Continue."
