Restore backup after jailbreak?

i just updated, JB'd,and unlocked my 3g. my question is should i restore my backup?

this time around i had access to a att sim and have push notification working, will a backup restore mess that up?

are there any cons i may not be aware of associated with a backup/restore?
will it mess with any cydia apps installed BEFORE the backup/restore?

Its highly advised to NOT restore from a backup after a JB because it can mess things up.

not to be ungrateful, but thats kind of vague. can you be more specific or point me in the direction to read about it?

last time i did a restore from my backup afterwards and didn't notice any problems. maybe slight slowdown but thats it. i chalked that up to all the programs and cydia additions. gotta have my status notifier/reminder

my main concern is the push notification getting nixed

Excessive battery drain is the most prominent.

Others are App Store apps not installing, inability to make and receive calls, etc.

If you want to read about all the problems, read here, lots of threads to browse or Dev Team blog.

i think i had heard the battery drain one before. never had the other problems you mentioned. i'm thinking of NOT doing the backup, i just wanted to find concrete reasons not to.

if anyone has links please post them. i tried searching before i posted, but nothing stuck out immediately.

Youre not going to find links. Its just user testimonials on these forums about how bad things can get. Its agreed upon here to restore as new phone to make things better.

but does anyone know how to extract my notes from my backup? and then sync them into my iphone

and maybe my sms.db...
