I'm trying to restore a backup, saved on my MacBook, to an iPhone running iOS 14.

If one restores a backup, is all the app data saved for 3rd party apps restored as well? or does the phone need to re-install those apps fresh?

Background

The backup is from iOS 13.7

The first restore failed (got Apple logo loop on restart). I then erased everything and did the restore during set up. When the restore was done, my phone showed "Swipe up to upgrade", so I just swiped up. The phone showed a progress bar for a while and then I was back in my phone but all the apps were installing fresh.

My issue is I had an Authenticator set up for 2FA and forgot to transfer that to my new phone before erasing the old phone. Fresh installing that app doesn't bring back any of my old integrations (obviously). I'm hoping I can restore a snapshot of my old phone.

Back in the old days your apps were backed up but that's not the case any more I believe. When I was restoring backups recently the apps were all downloaded to be installed but their individual data from the backup was restored.

hmm...I'll double-check then once the app is re-installed
