Dumb question I know, but want to get my MAX off to a fresh right start. Should I restore from backup of my x or set up as a new phone? Any suggestions? pros/cons?

Restored the XS Max from the X-backup and just installed the 12.1 beta 1 as I had a CarPlay issue with 12.0 and Google Maps. Been using 12.1 beta for 2 days on the X. No issues.

Isn't restoring from backup the only way to keep health data? I've had a watch since they were released. I'm not losing that data. I may be wrong, so please correct me.

In all the years I've been using iPhones and iPads I've always been restoring from back ups. I see no reason not to. I want my new phone set up and configured just like my previous one as seamlessly as possible.

Theoretically, with “everything” in iCloud now, including messages and health data, starting a new phone from scratch without losing any critical data should be possible. I will likely be attempting this in about a year on my new iPhone XI Max, or whatever Apple decides to call it.
