General Restore From Backup Then Jailbreak Or Vice Versa?

So, I want to jailbreak my iPhone 5 using the new Pangu. In order to ensure that my firmware has not been updated OTA, my plan is to do a fresh restore and then jailbreak. My question is, should I:

1. Restore, restore from backup, jailbreak

OR

2. Restore, jailbreak, restore from backup

I just did my iPhone 5 today. Clean restored to 7.1.1 (formerly was on 7.1 b2 JB). Then jailbroke with Pangu. Then restored from backup from iTunes. Worked flawlessly.

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback! So, just to confirm, upon finishing the restoring process, you selected "Setup as new iPhone" in iTunes, correct? I am in the process right now (option 2 in my original post) and I had to select "Setup as new iPhone" in iTunes in order to access the home screen...but ultimately, the goal is to end up restoring from a backup AFTER jailbreaking. Just making sure that what I am doing is correct...

No prob!

Yes, that's what I did. Setup as new iPhone. Then jailbreak with Pangu. Then right click the iPhone in iTunes and select "Restore from backup" and select your correct backup.

Haha yea. And to be honest, I think restoring from a backup after jailbreaking is a better method because I have heard of a lot of people getting their notification center settings reset after jailbreaking. I know that this was also the case with the Evasi0n jailbreak because I personally used it and it was very annoying having to reconfigure all of my notification center settings.

Do your jailbreak tweaks comeback if you do that or no? 99% of the time i restore new but I'm not really in the mood right now to do that.

I can confirm that my notification settings were not reset. :D

In fact, almost all my settings were fine (I had to make a couple changes here and there). Even my jailbreak tweak settings were restored after I reinstalled them.

Yes, as soon as I reinstalled my JB tweaks in Cydia, I checked their settings, and they were already setup as I had them previously.

Thanks, do you now how to restore from an iCloud back up BTW? It allowed me to do it right after the restore but i first hit new because i thought i would need to do that in order to get to the jailbreak app on the home screen.

i think you can only do an icloud restore once from the setup after you freshly restored
 
Bleh. I'm having issues up the yin yang with Pangu on my iPhone 5.
I restored and used an iCloud backup, that version was got red ???? and hung before the first respring. Leaving the Pangu app sitting there.
So I had to restore and I tried it all over again and I got the same results. So I restored, but I didn't restore the backup as mentioned here and it SEEMED to be working and started the first respring. Only to have Pengu clear the bar before the iPhone finished the second respring. When it did start up, the Pengu app was still there. So I sat there waiting but nothing.
So I repeated the last attempt hoping it to be a fluke, but it came to the same results.
Is anyone else here having similar issues or have a suggestion as to fixing it? It's driving me crazy as its my phone and I'd hate to find out I need to restore again or have the 7.1.1 signing window close by then.

For what it's worth, I updated my jailbroken iPhone 5 that was on iOS 7.0.6 to iOS 7.1.1 using the "Update" option instead of the "Restore" option on iTunes, and it worked without a hitch. Previously jailbroken with evasi0n, updated and everything restored.

After Pangu jailbreak, once I redownloaded my tweaks/apps from Cydia, all settings and all associated files were already on my phone. Smoothest jailbreak-upgrade experience ever. Sent from my MacBook Pro.
 
hey guys, i backed up my phone before upgrading and jailbreaking my iphone, i did jailbreak stuff and when it comes to restoring from backup itunes gives an error. what can i do?

You didn't happen to try the iOS 8 beta did you? A backup made on the iOS 8 beta won't work with iOS 7.1.2.

Note: You can make it work, but you'll probably run into problems down the line. Especially going from 7.x to 8.x
 
no it was 7.1.1 and i upgraded to 7.1.2. my phone was geeksnow jailbroken and i backed it up, now it jailbroken with pangu and this error happens.

I did the same going from evasi0n 7.0.6 to 7.1.2 using just "update". Then jailbroke, installed PkgBackup, restored my tweaks. Went quickly and smoothly and all is fine. I did disable fingerprint security beforehand.

After the PkgBackup tweak restore, i had to uninstall Intelliscreen and Gridlock while in safe mode as these apps aren't ready for 7.1.2, but everything running smoothly for a few days now.

I did have to redo the notification alerts for each app, but no biggie. I just popped into each app and responded to the alerts prompt. My fingerprints were all still there and just turned fingerprint security back on.
