iPhone Restore from backup w.out losing jailbreak?

my iPhone 5 is no longer touch responsive and there is no currently useable jailbreak. Sooooo….

i have an op to buy an iPhone 5 running 6.1.4

Will i be able to jailbreak it then restore it from a backup of my current i5 (also on 6.1.4) W.OUT losing the jailbreak?
 
Posixpwn will let you jailbreak higher firmware versions

My main concern is wether or not i can then restore from a backup of my current phone. At the moment both phones in question have 6.1.4
 
Because i'm not asking how to jailbreak. I'm asking if it can be RESTORED from BACKUP without losing the jailbreak once i do.

In other words posixpwn will put cydia on the iPhone but it won't put my texts, camera roll, etc.

I feel like your not familiar how it works, AFAIK its like the same method as green poison. Its not like building a custom IPSW or anything. It just injects the payload along with cydia and all that and voila!

I am well aware of iH8Sn0w and his tools.

If you back up with iTunes or iCloud, you can restore to backup and will get back your settings and hopefully most of your content. iCloud has always had issues with restoring all your pictures, but your text messages, contacts, music, movies, books should all come back. I have had better results using iTunes restores.

And if the firmware on your replacement device is the same or newer than your current device (6.1.4), you can restore to backup.

Thank you.. That is exactly the answer I was looking for.

I always do iTunes backups. I don't really trust the other the other lol looks like u don't either. I found a better deal on an i5 that still has 7.0.4 on it so if everything goes through that will be the new device.

An iPhone without the jailbreak is like having a girlfriend w.out the sex. Sure, you don't neeeed it and it can be fun and pretty to look. but it sure is frustrating when u can't do everything you know you could. It could be such a much better experience :cool:

Before buying the device on 7.0.4, you should determine if the owner updated it via OTA - evasi0n will generally not work on OTA updated devices and it can currently only be updated to 7.1.1
 
****. i didn't think of that. do you know if there's any way to tell other than just asking the previous owner? I'm going to google, but i'm guessing not

I updated OTA for 7.0.4 and had no complications jailbreaking to 7.0.6. While I do understand results may vary and that the Evasi0n devs said it would be best to restore first before trying. Worst case scenario he's forced to restore to 7.1.1.

I did this with my iPhone 5 and 5s. After re-reading what I said, I made a mistake with what I had stated earlier. I believe I meant I updated via OTA to 7.0.6 from 7.0.4. I wasn't jailbroken on 7.0.4 at the time and just did OTA to 7.0.6 and jailbroke then.

Then you were extremely lucky. Most people have reported failures

Although some people say the risk is lower if you update from an earlier iOS 7 version (e.g. iOS 7.0.4 to 7.0.6) as opposed to iOS 6 OTA to iOS 7
 
When the iOS 7 version of evasi0n was released, I was running 7.0.4 on my 5S which I had updated OTA from an earlier version of iOS 7.

I threw caution to the wind and tried the jailbreak, knowing that the worst that could happen was I would need to do a full restore, but it worked fine, and I kept it like that until 7.0.6 was released and evasi0n was updated, at which point I did a full restore.

Just another piece of anecdotal evidence that it CAN be fine, though of course I would never count on it.
