Firstly this is my first time posting in the forum, so I'm sorry if this has already been covered.

My issue concerns iPhone tethering. I was using the BenM hack whilst under 3.0 but then I upgraded to 3.1 and obviously lost functionality of tethering...

Now then, because I can't restore a 3.1 backup to OS 3.0 (my main concern is my SMS chat history, the rest i sync via mobileme) I've decided to stick with OS 3.1... but obviously I really miss tethering.

Now, my question is. Is there anyway for me to recover the SMS messages from my 3.1 backups and restore them to my phone when I revert to 3.0?

I'd be so grateful for your help, regards,

Seb

Don't think you'll be able to put them back on your phone but Mobile Sync Browser does a great job of retrieving SMS's from you backup file.

ey bastifantasti!
there's a way to fix your problem. i had the same problem tonight and searched the web like crazy. finally i came up with a solution ( http://modmyi.com/forums/3g-s-downgrading/687346-kind-successful-downgrade-3gs-3-1-3-0-a.html ).

so in order to restore your iphone 3.0 from a 3.1 backup is the following:

1) Navigate to your backup directory (OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/d...
2) Look for the file 'info.plist'
3) Edit it (best to use a command line editor like vi or pico)
4) Change 'Build Version' to 7A341 and 'Product Version' to 3.0
5) Save and exit
6) Restore your iphone from your OS 3.1 backup now without a problem

hope this works for you as well - let me know!
