Is there any benefit to this in using jailbreakme.com?

Yes, why wouldn't you be able to do a restore from backup?

From what I understand the unionfs puts the jailbreak stuff in a different spot so didn't know if a restore would try to put it back to make it just like the previous jailbreak.

Thanks for the help.

iTunes knows nothing about jb therefore it does not back it up and therefore does not restore it. There are NO jb apps that restore it either. NO APP THAT DOES BACKUP AND RESTORES BACKS UP AND RESTORES ANYTHING RELATED TO JB.

Always recommended to start from fresh after a jailbreak.

That's what I like doing as well. I just hate losing my pictures. Anyone know how to get them back into my phones photo album? I've tried copy and pasting the dcim folder and it doesn't se to work. Some pics show up and others are black squares.

Good to know thanks

EDIT: You're saying if you use iTunes to back up your iPhone, reset to factory, then do a restore, you lose all your pictures?

Wrong. iTunes does save certain data even when a jailbreak alters it.
Have you ever changed the carrier name and after a fresh install and
restore the name stays there even tho you are NOT jailbroken?

sorry for the double post

Please read the post I was replying to. The OPs issue was things being restored into the area of storage where the jb and the jb apps live. That does not happen because it can't.

Sorry for the confusion. No I dont like doing a new set up because of losing pictures. Restore puts them back of course..but wasn't sure if a restore was a good idea with new jailbreak.

What iPhone are you using? Do you have iOS 4.3.3/4.2.8 installed on your iPhone?

The only good thing with JailbreakMe 3.0 is that you can jailbreak via the device and not a computer. It speeds things up and makes everything easier. However, before you restore, backup your info through iTunes. You will have all data from iTunes backed up (app data, media, photos, etc), except Jailbreak apps. (NOTE: Some JB files and customizations are possible to be included in the backup, but I do not know for sure) Besides that, make sure you restore to fresh iOS 4.3.3 if you have been previously jailbroken, and apply the backup before jailbreaking via JailbreakMe 3.0.
