Hello,

I got a replacement iphone from Apple, running on 6.0.2
I want to restore my SMS Database on my new iOS 6.0.2 (before the upgrade, I was running iOS6.1.2). I do not have a backup on my computer, and was told I cannot restore because of the software being "out of date"

I have tried to use the old way like copying the SMS folder from my iOS6.1.2 to the new iOS6.0.2 but it doesn't work (I have some files created like "sms.db.incompatible.v21").

So noob question but .... everywhere we read that when we jailbreak our iPhone we dont have to restore it through a backup but to configure it as a "New iPhone".

So my question is : if we configure it as a new iPhone how can I restore the SMS Database ?

Thank you

if you do not have a backup on your computer, where are you getting this SMS folder?

if you only backed your original iphone using iCloud, there is no way to restore your text messages without updating to iOS 6.1.3

now, if you do have an itunes backup on your computer, extract the "SMS.db" file using something like iBackupBot. Afterwards, browse to /var/mobile/Library/SMS

delete everything inside there. Paste the SMS.db into that folder. Change the owner permissions to "mobile" if it is something else like "root". REBOOT your device and your text messages will be back. Do note that your MMS pictures will be missing using this method

However, if you do have the entire SMS folder. You can browse to /var/mobile/Library/ and delete the SMS folder. Copy and paste the entire SMS folder you have saved into that directory. Using this method, make sure that all the folder AND files owner permissions is set to "mobile". Then reboot your device and all your text messages and MMS pictures will be back as well.

you can use iFile to set the owner permissions or an SSH program. The picture attached is with iFile

NOTE: iFile is from CYDIA, not the appstore!!

I'm guessing your SMS.db is corrupt. What method did you use to attain this SMS.db file?

I actually extracted it using cyberduck.. i have another folder of my sms stuff, including the attachments, etc etc.. i can try that one and report back

Have you tried with ONLY the SMS.db file in the folder? My guess is that the SMS.db file you have is corrupt. I've done this a bunch of times and it has worked perfectly every time
Yes I've only been trying to input the SMS.db file, nothing else.. Change permissions and all

Is it because I'm trying to place a SMS.db backup from 6.1.2 onto a 6.0.2 device?

no, that shouldn't have any affect. i really do think your SMS.db file is corrupt. see if you are able to access it using a SQLITE browser

I'm sorry to tell you bro but something was changed on the OS end between 6.0.x and 6.1.x.

I ran into this when I restored from 6.1 beta to 6.0.x once. My texts were there as far as storage goes but did not appear. Sorry buddy.
