I can't figure out how to extract and import my text messages from my backup to add into my clean install of 7.0.4. Long story short, I was having issues with my phone (5) so I backed it up to my comp and restored and set up as new. I can see the SMS folder in ibackupbot but when I go to restore only that to my phone it doesn't work. It worked for my call history but not for messages. In I file I can see the SMS.db is the right size and permissions are set to mobile mobile and user is r,w group is r, world is r. Any thoughts in how to get this to work? I really would like to keep my messages but I don't want to use my full backup. Thanks!

was your phone on iOS 7.0.4 before you made the backup? if yes, then extract the sms.db from the backup, browse in your file system to /var/mobile/Library/SMS

drop the sms.db there, make sure owner permissions is mobile

respring device and your message history should show up

I'm on 7.0.4 and restoring sms using ibackupbot worked for me. Make sure you're backing up and restoring from the RIGHT save. That's the only issue I had with it.

I find this to be the easiest way of doing what you want to.

Yes, I was on 7.0.4 beforehand. I tried to restore SMS only from ibackupbot and also exported my SMS.db file to my desktop and placed it in /var/mobile/library/sms as well. Verified all the permissions as well. I can see the file there, but for whatever reason its not read by the app. I can see the attachments from MMS as well.

Did you respring?

If it still doesn't work, Try a clean restore and do what I suggested (put SMS.db at that location)

I did full reboots - as ibackupbot does one as well after it finishes "restoring" the messages too. I finally gave up last night, i couldn't get my camera roll to restore either, so between the messages and photos I said to hell with it for now.
