restore vs no restore

is there any advantage/disadvantage to restore before jailbreaking besides the obvious of resetting up the whole phone again?

i came from jb 3.0.1 to jb 3.1.2. i did a regular update and then jailbreak with blackra1n. i havent notice any battery decrease, still about the same. if i actually did a restore, would battery be a huge difference?

I think it's always better to start with a clean phone when doing something that makes low-level changes like jailbreaking does. If it's possible (i.e., if it won't lock your phone), I would definitely do it. That's my two cents.
