Hi,

I used to have a Mac many years ago with a 500gb hard drive, out of which 350gb was OS X and 150gb was Wndows, installed via Bootcamp. I no longer have that Mac, but I do have its hard disk, complete with the original OS X and Windows partitions.

I now have a new Mac (with 256gb internal flash storage), and would like to have a Windows partition via Bootcamp. I could easily partition my disk using Bootcamp and install Windows afresh, but that would mean having to purchase a brand new license. Hence, I'd like to be able to 'restore' my original Windows installation (the partition of which I still have on the original hard drive), onto a Bootcamped partition on my new computer's hard disk.

Firstly, is there any way to do this? If yes, is it possible to restore it while also shrinking the partition in size? My original Windows partition was 150gb, but due to the lower hard disk capacity of my new computer I would appreciate having to reduce that to a more feasible 75-100gb.

Do let me know how I can do that, it would help me a lot. If there is not-too-expensive software out there that'll help me, mention so as well.

Thanks a lot in advance!

winclone is supposed to let you do this.

the standard edition mentions "migration" as one of its features. You may wish to contact them for more details.

I'm not so sure that migrating to an internal partition is a good idea considering the small size of your SSD. I'm guessing that you don't like games.
