Restored calendar events don't display reminder

I had a 3GS with a bunch of calendar appointments in it. Got the new iphone 4S, backed up/restored the 3GS to the iphone 4S

The appointments show up in the 4S, but the reminders do not appear. The appointments do show the reminder setting (e.g. 1 day before and 2 hours before). But no reminders appear.

I have calendar notifications on, and set to Alert Style setting set to "Alerts".

Anyone else have this problem?
