iPhone Restored iPhone: Apps Downloading Instead of Just Synching?!

Hi,

i wiped my iPhone and restored it from a backup. All the apps are up to date on iTunes on my Mac yet it downloads each and every app one by one on the iPhone itself. like why???? this is literally going to take me hours instead of 10 minutes .... whats even the point of keeping them on my Mac if thats the case.

is it the stupid App Slicing feature?

edit: now it doesnt even seem to do anything ... only Facebook showed up on my iPhone and in iTunes the bar is stuck on "waiting for changes to take effect" (or something like that)

You no longer backup apps when you backup your phone. They are downloaded from the app store. It's been like that for a while.

not trying to backup apps. i have them all on my mac, they just dont want to sync back from my mac to my iPhone, instead they all download on the device. so whats the point of having them localy on mac if u cant sync them back to the device ...

They no longer sync from iTunes, ever since Apple introduced App Thinning. Each download is tailored to your device, there is no single app bundle any more.

but they download as a single app on iTunes / Mac... (NOT speaking of the iDevice) otherwise why would u even keep Apps on your computer now?

u r saying i have to download 20GB worth of Apps every time, even if i restore from my computer not iCloud? bollocks

thats like having a 1080p HD movie on my mac but in order to have it on my iPad i got to download the whole file again. see? stupid

The apps on your computer are merely a placeholder and a way to easily manage the apps on your device. And when I say manage, I mean remove apps or move them around in the folders via iTunes.

Also, movies don't have app thinning, so I don't understand how your analogy makes sense. Obviously if you wanted a movie on your iPad in addition to computer you would need to download it. Except its just download through iTunes and USB instead of from your purchases via the server.

edit: soooo it appears they do sync if u got the IPAs on your computer. iTunes must have been stupid but i just unplugged the iPhone in the middle of the stuck synching device process and it suddenly started to sync 10 apps randomly once i plugged it in again. then it seems to have gotten stuck again and i unplugged it again before it would sync another random number of apps. now it took a mere 5 minutes to sych all my Apps back onto the iPhone. must be a iTunes / El Capitan bug of some sort
