My iPhone 4S is coming in the mail soon. I have a 3GS running iOS 4.3.3. I don't necessarily want to update it to iOS 5 since the 4S will be here soon and I will just switch to that. When the 4S arrives, will I be able to "restore from backup" or however it works from the 4.3.3 3GS iPhone I currently use, or do I need to upgrade to iOS5 first?

Thanks

You can restore the 3GS's 4.3.3 backup onto the 4S's iOS 5.

Older backups are usually able to be restored to newer iOS versions.

It happened to me - when I got a 3GS from Apple, I restored my old 3G's 4.2.1 backup onto it (it was running 4.3.3) and it worked fine.

You should be alright.

Don't use 3GS backup

I got my 4S today and upgraded from a 3GS. But i used the back up on iTunes and found it only put the version of iOS5 that my 3GS had onto the 4s. i.e. no Siri.

I had to restore the phone and wait for iOS 5 to download again before i could use Siri on my new phone.

Lost my progress in Angry Birds but i'll survive!
