So, I restored (the OS, on) my iPhone 3G and found that I couldn't restore from my most recent backup, afterwards. I whipped out Time Machine and got my latest backup before that, and it restored fine. The problem is: the file size of the 'other' category is now 2.55 GB.

Can anyone tell me how I can fix this problem, or how to restore only certain parts of a backup? Or, any help at all?

Thanks!

After restoring the OS and restoring from backup (again ), it does the same thing. It's probably something wrong with the backup file(s).

Would my best option be to 'start new'?

Edit: I restored and started new. :(

Yes it did. Anyway, I didn't lose much. Just a few notes and lists I had made.

Currently I'm extracting the backup, and trying to decipher words and phrases from the files..... And I've extracted the .sqlite file from Shazam....
Now, I've basically got everything back....

I am very glad to hear that you got your iPhone back running and have almost completed the manual set up that you had to do! If the problem persists or comes back, please don't hesitate to post here again!
