Restoring iPhone without itunes?

I tried to update my iphone to 4.0 but realized i need to be a developer to use it so I am planning on restoring it back to iphone OS 3.1.3. Now all itunes says when i plug my iPhone in is that i need to be a devolper, no restore button. How would I restore my iPhone?

Put it in either recovery or dfu mode, your choice, and click shift+restore (PC), option+restore (Mac), and select the 3.1.3 firmware file. You need to download that by the way. If you get an error, after the firmware is on the device, use iRecovery to boot it out. The iRecovery commands are listed at the following link.
