Should I restore directly from a jailbroken iphone 3g with fw 2.1 to 3.0 or will that mean trouble to my phone?

I'm trying to restore back to 2.1 so I can upgrade to 3.0 and then use redsn0w but I'm having some difficulties with itunes.

I'm wondering if I should or if i could skip a couple of steps...

I wouldn't think you need to all the way back to 2.1 to go to 3.0.

I mean most of us here probably went from 2.2.1 to 3.0, why do you need to go back to 2.1?

The thing is that the iphone is jailbroken and in version 2.1

So I wouldn't be going back only restoring so I can un-jailbreak the device.

I'm getting a 1604 uknown error while restoring back though, thats why I was wondering if I could just skip and restore to 3.0 without any consequences.

Then after the restore I would use redsn0w to jailbreak the device again.

Yeah you can go straight to 3.0 without any problems. That 1604 error is a bugger-as I mentioned in another thread here, I had to switch to a different "mac" to get a clean 3.0 install.

Ahh, ok thank you very much. I'm going to try that out right now.

Hmmm, it seems like the 3.0 fw restore comes out with the same error (1604)...

I was trying to take it off restore mode to let itunes detect it in normal mode, but the phone seems to keep restarting in DFU mode...

I'm going to keep trying, any ideas?

lmao nevermind got it to work. Aparently the usb port I was using didn't work quite correctly. I apologize and thank you again.

Glad to hear it-I was getting the error on my early spring 2009 Mac Mini but not on my dell mini 9 (both running 10.5.7). So wasn't sure what the issue is-but now hoping I don't have USB problems on the mini.
