Restoring Jailbroken iPhone - Data left on phone?

I'm sorry to start a thread asking this but I've searched and searched and cannot find the exact answer I was looking for.

Basically, I jailbroke my iPhone, loved it like that, installed things like Cycorder, made some videos using it, installed some more cydia apps and then realised it was slowing my iPhone down so I've restored to stock firmware.

I know that restoring the iPhone reverts it to non-jailbroken state, but I did this without putting it in DFU mode as it was already jailbroken and not messed up...

My question is, have I wasted some memory by not deleting the videos that Cycorder made first? Because they would be stored somewhere in the /var directory would they not? Does a restore completely erase and rebuild the /var directory or does it just revert firmware to stock?

To be completely sure everything is gone, I would do a dfu+restore.

thanks, i would do that but (and this sounds silly) i dont want to lose all my texts and saved games/app settings.

if i was to do a dfu restore and then restore from my backup (which was made before jailbreak and restored after un-jailbreaking) would this ensure that all data in the VAR directory is gone as well as restoring app settings or would restoring from this backup simply put back on things i don't want?

what WOULD help is if there was a way to access the file-system (/var directory) (READ ONLY) without jailbreaking. is that possible? i know that write access of course isn't, but is read access possible? x

A DFU Restore is the only way to clear everything, a normal Restore wont wipe everything, you'll be left with small things like mods.

I think restoring a backup may bring back some mods and stuff, not 100% sure.

But you cannot access the /var (read only, or writable) without Jailbreak. The main purpose of JB is to be able to access /var.

thanks for your help! i'll try and extract my iphone backup in its entirety and see if there are any mods in the backup. if not then i'll DFU the iphone! cheers.
