Hey guys, I need some help. So I have some texts/iMessages from a friend that are stored in my backup on my Mac. I was wondering if it's possible to get these texts back from my backup, without deleting/erasing our more recent texts in our thread?
Make a copy of your recent texts first and then restore the other texts from your Time Machine backup. If you don't do that first, restoring from Time Machine will overwrite the older ones. May be a bit of work making copies of the texts or you can print them out. Sorry, I don't know of any other way.

Yeah, I'm trying to restore the old ones onto my phone without overwriting the current ones. I guess it's not possible. I asked an Apple support specialist and they told me the current ones will be replaced by whatever is on my back up.
I've seen somewhere that there should be an option in iOS 12 for merging text threads, but not sure if it works already or it will be the same as with Messages in iCloud... For now, as I understand even if you'll restore the backup to a spare device and sync both with iCloud it may replace the thread with a newer one or won't change anything, but not 100% sure.
