Hi everyone,

I have bought a 2nd hand unlocked/jailbroken iphone 3g and am planning to restore it in order to bring it to the apple store. I just have a few questions..

1) I just press restore on itunes and select set as new phone? This will erase all traces of being jailbroken/unlocked am I correct?

2) If I do this, will I have to reactivate it? Since I bought this phone second hand I am not sure how I would be able to reactivate it. Do activation require the original purchaser to activate it?

Thanks

1) Yes
2) I THINK it will try to reactive itself, but I'm not too sure how that'll work out either with it being second hand.

Also: do you require the phone to be unlocked? If you do a restore it'll get rid of the unlock. I'm pretty sure you can use redsn0w to "hacktivate" your phone, but I'm not sure if it goes through the whole jailbreaking process as I haven't used the tool before. Hope I was of some help :)

Thanks for the reply!

I will need to get the phone unlocked again after I bring it to the genius bar. The phone I have is originally locked to Rogers (Canada), but I am on Fido. I was just planning to borrow a friends Rogers sim and take it to the Apple store like that.

I am worried that when I put the Rogers sim in the restored phone, it will not reactivate because the Rogers sim is not the original owners sim. If anyone could give me a definite answer that would be great!

Thanks again!!
