Restoring to new iPad

What happens if you get a new iPad and restore from iCoud... is your old iPad still operational? Got my wife a new iPad and was wanting to restore it before I gave it to her without her knowing. Once restored does it send out any notifications that you have restored to a new iPad?

No notification. Restoring a new iPad from a backup of an old one, whether through iTunes or iCloud, has absolutely no effect on the original iPad.

Ok gotcha guess the only thing I need is for her to do is a iCloud backup before I restore.

She may get a notification that a new iPad is being used on facetime and iMessage. I've had this happen when setting up a new device
