Hey guys. About a month ago I jailbroke my iPhone and have been loving it. I played around with it a lot, SSHing, and the like, and didn't really ever know what I was doing. I've done no harm to my phone, but I would just like to start fresh on the JB scene now that I know how to manage it, and what I want out of it.

I checked Cydia, and my SHSH is 3.1.2 so that's good. I was wondering though, seing as I have yet to even Download the 3.1.3 firmware on my computer, would I be able to just restore as I would have before and still stay on 3.1.2? I don't know if it will automaticly download a newer version, but if I were to unplug my computer from the internet, could I prevent this?

If i need to use my shsh i will (anyone have a guide explaining it? ahaha) but if i can just do it this way, it seems a lot easier.

Also, am I restore it as if it's a new phone, but keep my same contacts, texts and usage info? I'm kind of Obsessive Compulsive about those things, and would hate to lose my texts and data usage/call time stats. I want a fresh phone though, with those two things in tact. I guess my best option would be to delete all of my apps from itunes and then just restore to a backup.

Anyway, those are my questions, thank you for the possible answers.

if you do everything the 'apple' way, when you select 'restore' it'll download 3.1.3 and stick it on.

if you point your itunes to cydia's server and option-click(mac)shift-click(win) restore you can select a 3.1.2 ipsw and because you've never gone to 3.1.3 everything should be hunky-dory.

ciao

You will need to used your cached SHSH, since Apple will no longer sign 3.1.2 firmware, and that has to be done each time you try to install it on your phone.

Setting up as a new phone will not preserve your saved text messages (those are stored in your backup) but will preserve your contacts and all other data that is synced with your computer. I believe there is a way to get your text messages off your phone using SSH and then add them back after restoring, but I don't know how one would go about that. You could search the forum here, though.
