I wanted to try and see if restoring and updating to iOS 14 via the ipsw file on the Mac may fix the "other" storage issue (instead of doing it OTA)

However, every time I am trying to restore my iPad with the iOS 14 ipsw, i get an error message. Restore with the iOS 13 ipsw works fine!

Any idea? Maybe its the version of catalina i am running? Unfortunately my MacBook Pro is no longer supported by Big Sur so I am not sure what to do. Btw I can't get it to restore with the iOS 14 ipsw on Windows either.

that error 9 on windows, and 10 on macOS, according to Apple support, are really the same error. The version of the software, or the system itself, is too old to support what you are trying to do.
And, it's an early beta. Likely that iTunes for Windows will be updated to allow you to install directly from ipsw. Same for macOS.
That probably leaves you with your original method to update to 14, unless (or until) Apple decides to update device support in the system. Patience would be the key here...

on windows "unknown error (9)" and on mac "error (10)"
On the Mac, you need to have Xcode 12 beta installed to get iOS/iPadOS 14 to install, or just use the profile on the device itself, and then Xcode isn’t necessary.

I’ll try it with Xcode beta installed. I want to see if the issue of „others“ is going away by doing a full restore using iOS 14 instead of OTA updating. My iPad only has 1 GB free ... instead of 40
