I have my stock iphone earphones in my ear, and my iphone in my holster. When someone walks into my room, I click the little button on the earphone to pause music. If I finish talking within a minute, I click the button again, and the music resumes.

But if I pause for longer, the phone gets locked, and then the button on the earphone doesn't work. I have to pull out the iphone, slide across, unlock the phone, and resume the music.

Why is that so? Am I doing something wrong?

This happens because the iPhone locks itself to save battery life. I've found that all you have to do to get music playing again is wake the phone up, not unlock it. I had the same problem when people walk into my cube at work and all I do now it reach into my pocket and push the button on the top of the iPhone, from there all you have to do is click the button on the headphones, no unlocking required!

For similar reasons, I have opted to turn the Auto Lock feature off on my Apple iPhone. This way, it doesn't shut off, unless I want it to, which is enough to trigger at will by pushing the lock/sleep button.

This seems to have been fixed in mine after the update.
