email from business rep at my local store:

" We will have all models available for sale on Thursday, the 21st including the top of the line MacBook Air and the Mac Mini. I look forward to hearing from you."

Yet the Apple site says that only the online store sells the i7s: http://www.apple.com/macbookair/specs.html (look at processor)

"$1599 model configurable to dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Core i7 with 4MB shared L3 cache, only at the Apple Online Store."

"top of the line" != custom configuration

I think the rep means that they will have the 256GB 13" i5s in stock. Apple could have done themselves a favor and not even bothered with that BTO option. It seems so insignificant to even bother with IMO.

Right... Well, I am not cancelling my online order just yet so as to not lose my place in the queue.

The business reps have typically been pretty reliable in the past and I feel like the Apple site stated the same thing last MBA launch when in fact it wasn't the case. Again, take it for what it's worth..

I think this is the same scenario with the last custom build. Perhaps by default the online store says "Customizations online only "

But the stores started carrying the ultimate (last version) when? Was it at launch? (can't recall)

sent a follow up email requesting clarity on whether "top of the line" means i7, will post back as soon as response is provided.

I called two stores in San Diego, both of them said that they will have the top of the line as in the base line, so the top base config for the 11", and the top for the 13". They said they would not have the maxed out 11" (i7, 256gb hd). Then again, I don't honestly know how much they actually know, we're just going to have to wait until tomorrow to find out.

I called the local apple store in Richmond VA a few times today and asked about the new SB MBA's

I asked about if they would carry the MBA 13" ultimate, an when they were getting into the store.

Every time I got a response saying "we dont know when we will get the new MBA's"

Were they lying to me, I thought that the all the apple stores were selling SB MBA's tomorrow. And, will the apple store carry 256gb, i7 13" MBA?

response below from business rep, confirmed on i7 both 11" and 13", if my memory serves correct "ultimate" availability at launch differed by store (one of my local stores had them and the other didnt) :

"Yes, we will have the "ultimate" MacBook Air in both 11" and 13" with an i7 processor, 4GB of RAM and 256 GB flash storage.

Thanks, and please let me know if there is anything else we may do to help you."
