Hello guys, my retina macbook pro is driving me insane....

The computer will -simply- not execute a lot of my instructions, orders, or it simply -lol- ignores me. (skynet much?)

Anyway, it really is bothering me and here is a rundown of issues I have -so far- experienced

a) No control over resolution. I keep changing the resolution to "best for retina" but when I reboot , the system just doesnt care and changes the resolution to "more space".

b) No control over login items. No matter what changes I make, removing entirely the programs using the "minus" icon (not just unticking the items), it never makes a change when I reboot the computer. It still lists all the items I removed.

c) Finder boots up every time the computer is on and with the applications folder poping up. I tried removing the finder.plist from the preferences but it doesnt matter the computer still pops up the applications folder when I boot up.

d) I cannot even change the desktop background and make the option stick after a reboot. I choose another desktop and everything seems alright, then I reboot, and it switches back to the one it is "stuck" with.

e) Iphoto needs to repair the library every time I open the application.... no matter what...

I tried reseting the PRAM but without success.

Any help will be really appreciated, I know all things must be connected to each other, there must be a single reason that causes all this mess, probably a preferences file or system file... anyone can help me because this really drives me insane and I really dont want to go through all this reinstalling ML thing....

No the SMC did not change anything.

My retina was working just fine 1 day ago... this cant be such a huge issue to need a fresh install... this is windows philosophy, i thought apple is not known for such things.

The Genius Bar is highly overrated. I'm _not_ being negative, just sharing.

I wouldn't hesitate to do a fresh install. If you have a proper backup (time machine) routine in place, it's very fast & easy.

If not, it's time to rethink your computing practices.

I must confess I am disappointed in the way some people ignored or replied in my problem.

Dont know, maybe you have to be some well known member in order to get the attention or be worthy of a proper and most importantly respectful answer.

Take a look for example:

can you replace it with a new mac?

or this:

Yes there is… the BEST tip…Take it to Apple Store Genius Bar. :apple:

Do you people think that you are being awesome replying in a manner as if you are talking to a complete retard? Does that make you feel awesome or something?

If there was a genius bar where I live I would take it. But it is a software thing, not a hardware one, and most people would just do a clean install, it would take them less time than doing all the genius bar thing...

You dont have to be a "genius" to realize that... (oh the irony to the above mr or mss)

Fortunately there are still people who want to help which have my thanks:

The Genius Bar is highly overrated. I'm _not_ being negative, just sharing.

and

OP are you running beta versions of OSX as your previous threads would indicate?

No I am not running beta versions. I am just interested by them and what changes they might bring.

Now on my problem, I went on and did a clean install... there werent any other suggestions or replies so I had the only option left. Now everything runs perfect, but still those clean installs remind me of the ugly windows days and it is disappointing to see that ML is a step back from what once was an impossible system to corrupt....

For example my 2009 early imac with Snow Leopard .... I never ever ever ever ever did a erase and install... from the moment I purchased it till this day i did not have to format it not even once.... and I have done crazy stuff on that thing and it still kicks ass...

ML? Already 2 clean installs.... and my practices aint that different compared to my imac.

Oh well... gotta be more carefull, looks like OSX is not exactly as it used to be.
