Retrospect 6.0, how much does it compress data?

Hi!

I will make a backup of my data, so I'd like to know how much Retrospect can compress the 80 gig of my powerbook 15".

I will use a firewire external disk.

It depends on what the data is.

Compressed files like LZW TIFs compress very little if at all, text files maybe more... at a wild guess, allow for a 55-75% compression ratio for a wide range of different kinds of files.

We use Retrospect at work over a small network. I prefer not to use a compressed archive simply because of the time it takes to compress -- storage capacity is not a problem.

No, that's not what I meant at all... when setting your backup script up within Retrospect you have a number of options for the sort of archive you wish to create, including compressed.

To be honest, Retrospect is overkill for the home user. SuperDuper!, Carbon Copy Cloner and Silverkeeper work just as well and are far more user-friendly. I use Silverkeeper at home for my nightly back-up -- has never failed me yet and it's free.

ok, i understand, you know my english is not the best...

but, what do you mean with "more user-friedly"? more colors or something like that?

there is no problem with money for me in this case...

i have heard that retrospect 6.0 is very easy to set.

What's the difference between them?

I have Retrospect, but when doing an inquire to my FireWire/SCSI converter vendor about problems when disconnecting other FireWire units, he recommender BRU from TOLIS Group because of reports about restore problems with Retrospect, so now I'm a bit anxious.
