I recently bought a 27-inch 5k iMac thinking it was the newest 2019 version, but it really was the 2017 version. Should I return it and get the 2019 version? I don't really know much about computers.

2017 iMac ($1,699)

3.5 GHz Intel Core 7th gen i5 - Quad core

Radeon Pro 575

2019 iMac ($1,729)

3.0GHz Intel Core 8th gen i5 - 6 core

Radeon Pro 570x

OR

bite the bullet and spend a lil bit more to get

2019 iMac ($1,999)

3.1GHz Intel Core 8th gen i5 - 6 core

Radeon Pro 575x

I'm a grad student, so I'll primarily be using this for daily usage, writing papers, and playing games (steam, sims). Thanks! :)

For writing papers, surfing the ‘net etc., you’re likely to notice little difference.

Gaming depends on lots of things but the 2019 should be better. How much better depends on the games and the version of the 2019 you get. I’m not a gamer so I’ll leave that to others.

Don’t ignore other tasks you might want to do. The second you edit a video that you captured on your phone for posting to, say, Facebook, you’ll wish you had the fastest iMac you could afford.

I see another post ,just up the forum from you, where the OP made the same mistake.

Where did you buy your computer ? a2

Thanks! Just looked at the other post.

Got mine at best buy! I think I'm going to keep it. I'm quite content with it and it does what it needs to do. I'm probably not going to see much difference in the things that I do anyways, and it's still an upgrade from my 2015 MBP
