iPhone Return iPhone 5 to Apple, How to JB after?

I recently got the Powerbutton issue and will have to take it back to Apple.

Im currently jailbreaked on iOS 6.1 and i did save SHSH blob 6.1 with TinyUmbrella.

So I have to restore my phone (auto 6.1.4), leave it in - But how do i recover to 6.1 when I get my phone back? Since the phone will be on 6.1.4 at that point

Or could i just restore to 6.1 with no jailbreak, and leave it in - and then jailbreak?

An "explanation for dummies" is needed here ;)
 
Aha , I understand..

In that case i'll wait to September (If ios 7 havent yet been jailbreaked) since my warranty ends there..

I rather have a hardware-issued phone with JB then a perfect-condition phone with non-JB :rolleyes:
 
Saving SHSH for newer devices is done "just in case" someone finds an exploit to allow restores to unsigned firmware - however, since hackers have been looking for over 2 years, the chances are honestly very slim.

SHSH are device specific. so in your case, where you will receive a different phone, the SHSH you saved for the defective phone are worthless to you even if a process to downgrade is found.

There is always a chance your replacement phone will come with 6.1.2 or older firmware.

But what if they just fix/replace the button-problem and i get back the same phone ?
I got it 2 weeks after release, and saved the blob the same day as evasion came out

If you plan to restore it to take it in, I read Apple is moving toward doing in store repairs, but doubt they are quite there yet.

My guess is you will just have your phone exchanged out.

Your choice of getting your phone back is MINIMAL. They will very likely give you a refurb. instead. So your blobs are useless.
 
Another method is you could remove all your tweaks and hide cydia somewhere. If it's not obvious I doubt they'd start looking in-depth for a software issue.
 
I hear that Apple is doing in house repairs in the stores like for broken screens and other minor issues so you might just get back the same phone. Just not sure if they would go ahead and try to update the iOS on the phone. I guess it's worth asking at your local Apple store. But as stated above don't know if they have started this yet.
 
I'm so lucky !

Apple replaced my phone to an all new iphone 5, Once it came home i noticed it had 6.1.2 - So I could just jailbreak succesfully :D:D
 
This has given me a glimmer of hope, got a repair/replacement organised for this week and am crossing fingers my new phone comes with 6.1.2 or below.

Hope smashed! My replacement arrived today and it was 6.1.4 :( (this was direct from apple)

Sorry to dash your hope, beta's aren't even releases yet, they won't waste any exploits on those, release for iOS 7 somewhere this fall, if they can jailbreak iOS 7 it won't be released until end of this year at the earliest.
 
I'm in the exact same boat my friend.

Sleep/wake button stopped working altogether, got it replaced yesterday and lost my JB.

Looking into Android devices. Stock iOS is painfully ugly and boring. :mad:

Sorry, but not going to wait until February 2014 for a jailbroken iPhone.

However, they do have more exploits up their sleeve.

If iOS 7 betas show these holes are closed, then they may release a JB for 6.2 or 6.1.4.

They might indeed, or not, it also gives away their thinking process which might be needed for future jailbreaks.

iOS 6 is difficult for jailbreaking compared to prior iOS iterations.

iOS 5 was almost always open between the 5.0.1 and 5.1.1, thus for most of iOS 5's lifespan as after May, Apple didn't bother patching until iOS 6 in the Fall.

iOS 4 didn't have this problem because those devices could use blobs to downgrade, or there was always an untether.

iOS 3 could use blobs but also most devices other than newer 3GS' always untethered through permanent exploit.
