Another paranoid post here - to clarify: I'm considering buying a Macbook and I'm worried about getting a dead pixel. Basically, the return policy is:

14.1 If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a pre-built product, please call 133 622 for a Return Material Authorisation (RMA) request within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product.

If the item is returned unopened in the original box, we exchange it or offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. The product must be returned to the Apple warehouse within 14 calendar days of the issuance of the RMA. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product. A shipping fee of A$20 will be assessed on open box returns. A $20 shipping fee will be assessed on closed box returns in which Apple collects the product from you.

It simply says I am not satisfied - so if within 14 days I find a dead pixel could I theoretically return it and say I'm not satisfied and then later on purchase a new Macbook? Also, what does it mean by open box returns? Does that mean I'll pay 20 dollars if I've opened it? (I don't mind paying $20 to ensure I don't get a dead pixel)

Yes, you have 14 days..

The fees are... well, I don't know. If you buy it from a local Apple Store, there are no shipping fees.

We don't have Apple Stores in Australia unfortunately.

So I can return it for ANY reason and buy a new one? Theoretically continuing to do this until I get one that works?

I am not sure what the $20 thing is but i know that any Apple product which is opened will have a 10% restocking fee (open box). Now if it is deemed defective (a bunch of dead pixels), they could then fully refund your money or exchange it or fix it... Outside of the 14 days though, you are out of luck, usually will have to send it in for getting fixed (or a genius bar will take it for a day or two).

If you purchase a stock configuration model (even getting a glossy screen is not considered stock, even though the stores carry them), you have 14 days to return it unopened for the full price back, minus shipping. If you open it, you have 14 days to return it, and get the full price back, minus shipping and a 10% restocking fee (For example, if you pay $2000 USD for a MBP and return it open box, you get $1800 back). After 14 days, you're out of luck unless its defective.
