Hope I am posting in the right section. So I went to an Apple Store today to return 2 iPhones, 1 XS and a 1 XS MAX since my brother is in the military and I could save about $200. Total amount was about$2200. I purchased it with about $2000 in apple store gift card (since i found someone selling discounted gift cards) and the rest on my credit card. When i went to return them, they said the amount is too large so they had to do 2 return transactions. The Apple specialist told me she had to refund the full amount to gift cards. she couldn't refund the partial amount i paid with my credit card toto credit card and it had to go on a gift card. is she right? Every store have always refunded the original form of payment unless you request a gift card.

Typically, they refund the original payment used, which in your case, was largely the gift cards. For the record, Apple can _only_ put a maximum of $2000 on a gift card, which is why they had to issue you two gift cards.
