I was within the return window for my M1 14" MacBook Pro and decided to return it for the new model. Both are the 16GB/1TB configuration.

I was not sure how noticeable the upgrade would be based on everything I was reading about the M2 Pro.

Anecdotal results:

  • The M2 Pro is noticeably faster in normal use.
  • Lightroom Classic was giving me problems on the M1 Pro. I had to turn off full acceleration to prevent running out of memory and actual hard crashes / reboots of the machine
    • The M2 has had zero issues with Lightroom Classic, same version, with full acceleration enabled
  • Battery life is noticeably longer.
  • WiFi transfer speeds on my home WiFi AC network are significantly faster on the M2 MacBook
Overall, I am glad I was able to return the M1 and use the educational discount to get the M2 for only a couple hundred more dollars than I had paid for the discounted M1 in December.

About how much longer battery life did you get with the M2? More than the advertised hour?

I wasn’t measuring anything but my guess doing light work like I was doing is that it is more than an hour.
