Didn't like it. Screen too big for me, missing features, would prefer to keep my money.
That's all.

EDIT:
"Why didn't I buy it in store?"
I pre-ordered. Tried it out on the day that it arrived. Then I went to the Apple Store to return it. I enjoy doing this because I get to go to the Apple Store to return instead of buy – avoiding the lines to buy on day 1.

While I was in the Apple Store, I got to 'try' a number of iPhones. Trying it in store isn't the same as trying it at home.

I was genuinely excited for the Air. But the compromises were too much.
It will probably be a few years from now, but we can probably expect Apple's engineers to work out a way to get it down in size a little, put a 2nd camera in, put a bottom speaker in, and give a little more battery life.

They'll call it iPhone Air (A22, 2028) or something. The iPhone normal series might just disappear once a full-featured Air is made.

i hear you about the screen being big.

i myself would have preferred if they kept the height as it is, but made it a little less wide.

if latest rumor(s) are true, this Air was developed as a testing base for the eventual Foldable. i think the screen width (Air screen width x 2) is going to make for a great foldable. but unwieldy for the current Air.

With the base iPhone 17 being 6.3 inch now, it's starting to look like the 16e series is the only "normal" size option at 6.1.

But then, the 16e is compromised. It would make more sense to get a 15 Pro over 16e.

The phones are physically almost identical in size, they just shrunk down the bezels to fit the larger screen size, how is that a bad thing?

at first the iPhone air tempted me to get. Later I see the screen actually is Plus version. I mean i used to own iPhone plus before. That time come iPhone 15 which currently I'm using, i choose back the base version. I feel better holding and placing the small iPhone inside my jean pocket. Actually I hope the next new iPhone Air they have small one.

My main hesitation with the Air is its screen size; it might just be too big for my taste. I’ve been using the regular iPhone 13 with its 6.1" display, which feels spot-on for me. I could probably adjust to the 6.3" screen on the iPhone 17 regular or Pro, but the Air seems like it could cross the line into oversized territory.

With the missing features I can live, but the screen is just too big… hopefully they'll make a smaller version in the future.

The actually body of the phones are the same size, the larger 6.3 inch screen size has come from making the bezels thinner

If you want a smaller screen, then you will be sacrificing even more battery. Think about it.

But the smaller screen uses less battery, but I agree you would likely lose more battery life than the savings on the smaller screen.

The screen size is also a good bit of marketing from Apple and allows them to justify the higher price IMO, yes you're losing some features from the regular iPhone, or the Pro, but you're getting a bigger screen.

To be fair, I put my iPhone 15 face to face with 17 and 17 was just a few mm taller, really not a big deal, coming from 6.1” screens.

Some of my female clients have very small hands, yet they have no trouble handling their Pro Maxes. Most of them are not even techy, just want “the best iPhone there is”.
I get what you mean. People like this do exist. Some want the highest priced(the 2TB storage) iPhone even though they only use around 100GB of storage. People are weird like that.
