Why:
wobbled badly - very annoying to use
Kept overheating and shutting off a core
fan would go full blast for no reason

Asked apple genius what he recommended - his answer was a new mbp - don't buy rev a products if you want reliability.

Was not sure so I took refund and came home.

Will decide by the weekend

That is a good reason to have it replaced.
Kept overheating and shutting off a core
Easily turned off in the preference panes.
fan would go full blast for no reason
It obviously had a problem.

Buy another one, or buy a new MacBook.

How?

Not really sure - don't like mb mainly because it is plastic.

Did like the MBA but cannot afford to have an unreliable machine. The MBP therefore is tempting. I am however unsure as to the luggabilty of it.

I think you just got a bad unit. Sounds like there was something wrong with the CPU or the cooling system... maybe too much/too little thermal paste?

Most people are reporting that the MBA is the most "solid" Apple laptop made in many years. I've even heard the phrase "over-built" thrown around.

I honestly would have just gotten a new unit and tried it before I sucked up the restocking fee.

I don't have any of those problems.
mine never wobbles. (mine lies flat no wobbles)
mine never get too hot. (even when i am watching avi movies that is 1.4GB)
mine has no problems with fans. (my mba is quite compared to mb)

Even though I really like MB & MBP, I prefer small size and light weight over better performance and more options.
Being a college student, I like to travel light, specially when walking miles inside the campus.

i've read this as a problem in a few reviews. i think apple wanted to make it look like it was 'floating' with the convex bottom when sitting, and give it luscious curves as well. it may be the only flaw in its design. of course, if you put it on a flat surface, its said to be sturdy. i have a feeling that 3rd party companies will have cheap disposable feet for the MBA for sale soon. if not - then someone will post a DIY to aide the wobbly problem.

shouldn't be a restock charge if the unit is faulty. I'm happy to say my Air has none of the problems you list and hopefully this is the norm. Very solid little laptop. I'd give another one a try unless you want something in the Pro that the Air lacks.

I had similar "issues" and bought a MBP. After "lugging" it for two days, I decided I rather have nothing than a defective MBA or a 7 pound MBP.

And no, I do not want a MB. :(

You DO know that most 15" or 14" wintels WEIGHTS the same as a 17" MBP?

Perhaps you should hit the gym. No problem with a 17" MBP here.

You are almost funny.

If you only knew what I did for a living....

By the way, walk through O'Hare with a MBA, then with a MBP, there IS a difference.

Same here, I've got a wobbly MBA!! Tack onto that the fact that I sprung the extra cash for the 1.8 ghz 80 gig HDD and I have to jump through hoops to get this resolved. I'm a student and bought this machine just for school use. I've got an MBP for all the video editing I do out in the field and a Mac Pro at work, so I really wanted a light machine that I could use just for school and this was it. I thought I could live with it but dammit for what I paid I want a machine with no case style/wobble flaws.. Just my thoughts...

I am having the problem where the core shuts down. Will the apple store take back my macbook air even though it is past the 14 day return period? How change the preference for the core shutdown in preferences?
