Returning an unlocked iPhone

Hi! My unlocked iPhone has a dead pixel and I was thinking if I could exchange it. Can I just revirginized my iPhone and get away with it? Would they care at all? Do I have to sign with AT&T to be eligible for an exchange?

I believe there are multiple threads on re-virginizing the iPhone to take it to Apple for repair or exchange. I have not had experience with this, but I also dont know if 1 pixel would qualify for exchange.

Well, I was looking for the sordid account of 'someone' trying to return an unlocked iPhone across the highly reflective and morally pure surface of an Apple store Genius Bar.
