Hi All,

I want to return my ipad to the Apple store but I was wondering if I need all of the plastic coverings that came with it (e.g. the plastic sheet that is on the ipad, plastic covering the adapter etc).

I know apple charges a restocking fee, so maybe this covers all of that? I of course still have the box, manual, cords etc.

Thanks!

PS. Basically I needed this to replace my laptop for business trips but without a fully functioning office suite it wont work for me. Pages can't use tracked changes and we use this all the time at my work (oh well!). Waiting for MS office...

I imagine you're fine without the plastic. It's gong back to the factory anyway... :)

No offense, but didn't you look into this before buying one?

None taken. Pages for mac does utilize tracked changes. There was nothing saying that pages for ipad would not.

Also, why wouldn't a word processing app that claims MS compatibility allow tracked changes? It's very bizarre.

Have you thought to check what they are going for on ebay. I'm sure a short sale and willingness to ship internationally (after receipt) may allow you not to lose the restock fee.

Thanks I had considered this but I'm not sure I'm willing to take the risk for international shipping unless they would pay by some method other than paypal. Paypal chargebacks (fraudulent credit cards) are somewhat common, especially for international transactions. Paypal's protection policies are not as good as they claim (see www.paypalsucks.com)

I'll look into it

Don't hold your breath. It's not coming anytime soon.

Also, you could probably sell it quite easily on craigslist.

Thanks, I might check craigslist. Only problem is I live in NYC so there are a lot of scammers.

Be careful. I got screwed by a buyer when I sold my iPhone. I lost my phone and $350. It was a nightmare and PayPal didn't back me up. Mind you, the buyer had zero transactions and had been registered for 2 days. I have over 150, 100% feedback, and an account for over 8 years. PayPal completely hung me out to dry none the less.

Similar things happened to me, and this is why I no longer sell anything on eBay. Craigslist all the way, and ONLY for local transactions where I get cash in hand before the item leaves my possession. Good for them (they get to verify it first), good for me.

There are scammers everywhere. I kind of feel like the OP is right in the sense that "track changes" being non-existent on the iPad version of Pages means that perhaps the iWork suite is dumbed down too much.

Waiting for MS office...

Microsoft Not Making Office for iPad

Despite previous talk about the possibility, Microsoft said that Office isn't coming to the iPad after all.

...

But on Thursday Stephen Elop, president of Microsoft’s business division, said that the company has no plans to make a version of Microsoft Office for the iPad. In fact, he told BusinessWeek that Microsoft is taking a "wait and see" approach in regards to tailoring any kind of new software for the Apple tablet. With that said, he didn't rule out the possibility of iPad owners using the web-based version of its Office suite.

I have owned many macbooks and iphones, and simply because I want to return the ipad the account is suspect? Yes how could anyone not fall in love with the glorious ipad.

Seriously, give me a break. I really like the iPad but it wont suit my purposes and so I am returning it.

We're supposed to believe you bought a $500 (minimum) iPad, to use a $10 app, only to return the iPad because said app doesn't do one thing you want? ON TOP OF your main concern being "do I need the plastic"? Something is just plain fishy. I'm talking McDonalds singing-Filet-O-Fish-on-the-wall style.

It's called waiting for an update.

Ummm...Google Docs. People really still use MS Office?

Doesn't work offline (like on an airplane...sadly most international flights dont have wifi). Also I have seen google docs massacre a good number of complex excel sheets.

I'm with you. Not impressed with the iPad. If they made it like an actual smaller version of the MacBook, then I'll look into it. Looking forward to the next revision as well.

I was looking at my local craigslist and people are selling these for $650-800+. I bet you can unload it fairly easily for what you're into it, at least.

Hi All, Registered just to post here....

First of all, I don't know what all the disbelief is about this guy lying...

I too just returned my ipad today. Took a $59 hit, but to me, It was worth it to know I don't want it.

iPadNo actually has a decent reason for returning his, so I don't know why you don't believe him. I simply don't have much of a solid reason. I bought mine on Saturday cause it looked awesome and thought I'd use it a lot.... But found myself only really using it to read the newspaper. Word Processing is good on it with pages (yes I bought the $10 app) but if you have laptop it does not replace. The iPad is great for airplanes so if I travelled a lot I would have kept it.

I'll buy it again someday when they improve on it and the price comes down. Also, Not allowing Flash is KILLER.

Oh.... I returned it just fine without the plastic. They expect that if you opened it, you opened it and actually used it.
