I can't believe it - tried to use the mini as a desktop and it's great. BUT now I'm seeing it fall apart more. I'm going to return this mini and go for an M1 MBA/P instead. I can't even send an Apple Pay to anyone. Complete utter apple-like garbage to do this to the mini. You have Secure Enclave built into the M1 but you can't use Apple Pay to send payments on a mini. I might as well buy an M1 laptop, get the screen, touchID, AND be able to dock just like the mini. Horrible decision I made buying this mini...

I should say there is no wallet app in the system preference? Is this a Big Sur bug or what? I mean I can’t send an Apple Pay Cash to anyone there is no option in messages app either. I can do so on ipad and iPhone and my MBP with Touch ID. I just can’t with this new m1 mini? Has it always been this way? I have use Apple Pay Cash on my Mac enabled on my iPhone.

I'm seeing a few people say that Apple Pay is broken in the recent Big Sur update, regardless of M1 or not

Thank you for the replies! I have tested on some sites in safari that can test the Apple Pay and it works but I don't have a way to send Apple Pay Cash via iMessaging. I can do that obviously fine with my iPads, iPhones even my touchID MacBook Pro. I don't know why I cannot do such a thing with the M1 mini. The wallet app isn't even in the preferences pane at all.

I'm just contemplating on getting another laptop instead of this mini because I can also dock the laptop but will have touchID available. I am using my Apple Watch to unlock and pay just fine via safari - all I want to do is also be able to send Apple Pay Cash via iMessage but that option is no where to be found!

Is your MacBook Pro running the same version of MacOS as your M1 Mini? I can'y see how switching to a M1 MBA that is running the same hardware as your M1 Mini is going to fix your issue. Sounds like a software issue.

Still doesn't work perhaps it will never work on an Mini ever since it doesn't have touchID. Anyway, I ordered a 16GB Ram mini w/512 storage. The biggest factor is multiple users on this mini system so the 8GB ram won't cut it.

You actually can use ApplePay on the Mac mini. It just pulls it from your phone instead of having your card information stored on the mini.

This is because there is no biometric authenticator on the mini.

Thank you this I already know because you can go to https://applepaydemo.apple.com and test it from there it works fine with my iPhone and watch.

BUT having someone request $ from me using Messages (iMessage) will NOT work in fact it crashes the iMessage app on my M1 Mac mini. It does not obviously have any issues with this request on all my iPads, iPhone, and laptops. I never owned a Mac mini before 2010 until this M1 mini but I didn't realize you cannot send or receive Apple Pay Cash via the Mac mini. It simply doesn't work and there is no wallet app in the settings preference pane. There is not way to even initiate anything Apple Pay using the messaging app either on the M1 Mac mini. I don't know about other Mac mini's but this M1 with Big Sur doesn't work and crashes!

Yea it is a bummer. I have a feeling Apple will come up with a faceID monitor ($799 lol) for the Mac mini/clamshell MacBooks that will alleviate this problem.

I have same issue. Funny thing that same card are fully working and all other devices like iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch with no issue. I think it is problem with Big Sur.
Touch ID is also fully functional.
I'm using MacBook Air 2020 M1

Why not just make the user enter his/her Apple ID password for the transaction to go thru? On second thought, isn’t owning an iPhone a requirement to Apple Pay? Then it would make sense that Apple Pay on the Mac mini work thru the user’s iPhone. But this doesn’t explain why it works on the MPB/A.
