Returning my iPad

Well I REALLY wanted to use my new iPad as a way to answer emails and surf the web at home.

The apps are truly incredible and the Netflix app is really appealling. If I traveled alot I'd keep it just for that one app. I'm sure I'd get used to the weight. The battery life is incredible. There is no need for Flash, the apps are great.

But I just can't type with it. I type the old-fashioned way with my hands resting on the keyboard. You just can't do that with a touchscreen display. I find it easier to answer my emails with my iPhone.

Any ideas short of buying a bluetooth keyboard?
 
I can thumb type reasonable well in landscape. Not too bad one handed. Otherwise getbthe wireless or dock. $0.02
 
Well what I have found is that my need for a keyboard has gone after about 5 minute typing on the touch keyboard. I absolutely love the touch keyboard and can type just as fast as I could with the physical keyboard.

Sorry to hear your returning it due to that.... Any Bluetooth keyboard works.
 
as with the iPhone, you'll get used to typing on the iPad... I tried my co-workers today and found typing to be pretty accurate and comfortable...

But you don't want to carry a physical keyboard with you around. I think the idea of tablets is that the user shouldn't type too much so heavy-typists will always prefer a laptop/desktop computer.
 
I tank the touch keyboard just takes a little bit of getting used to, and then after at it's just as good as a regular keyboard. I just typed this whole post on the ipad touch keyboard at normal speed, and only made one mistake.

You get used to it.
 
Just for kicks, write "steve, this fails" on a post it note and leave it under the holder in the box when you return it.

If I have to carry around a keyboard I'll just use a laptop.Would be great if it had handwritng recognition.

Btw, I'm writing this on my iPhone and am terribly comfortable with it.

If I have to carry around a laptop, I will just use an iPad and only bring out the keyboard when I need it.
 
Touch keypad is one of the big selling points of this devicemfor me, it works amazingly well. I definitely can't complain about it but I am not a touch typist. It seems that most folksnthat rely on feel are disappointed with the keypad I guess for understandable reasons. Old habits are hard to break. I still don't think I would return the device though as it has so much to offer and there is really nothing else like it out there.
 
So, the "best way to browse the web and email" will require you to add a new device to your iPad?

Wow, such innovation Apple. Great job! This is similar to their new iPod shuffle where they removed the controls and placed them on their head phones...head phones that not every person can use.

Apple is getting worse and worse are usability and it's truly a shame. They are focused on making devices and upgrades for profit rather than bettering the user experience.

So because the OP is returning the iPad, Apple usability is getting worse?

I guess all the other 299,999 iPad owners are just sheep then.
 
I'm still waiting on my iPad WIFI+3G, but I had the chance to type on one.

Remember what everyone coming from hardware keyboards on phones said when they first used the software/touch keyboard on the iPhone? Sound familiar?

It will seem strange at first, but you'll be surprised how quickly you become accustomed to it. It is strangely addicting once you start using it a lot in landscape mode. I haven't quite gotten used to the other keyboard, but I only used it for about 40 minutes.
 
Lanscope mode I can type will both hands, usually my (okay the fingers next to my thumb) and go faster than I would on a regular keyboard by a ton.

The touch keyboard rocks.
