I got my refurbished mini in the mail on Friday. I played around with it this weekend, but I think I actually prefer my Macbook Air. My mini just seems slower for some reason. It lags on just about everything. Maybe its the HDD Mini vs SSD Air I'm seeing? But anyway, I am returning it for now. I will wait and see what Apple releases with the next gen Mac Mini or maybe even get an iMac. But my main question is, should I boot into the recovery partition and reinstall OS X before shipping it back? Do I need to do any security options or just install the OS? I only installed one App and set up my email. That's all I did on it. I never returned a mac before so I not sure on what's recommended. Thanks

Yea maybe I'll try throwing an SSD in there and see how it is. I do like everything else about it. Hopefully an SSD and a clean install will smooth things out.
SSD is your problem. I can't use computers without an SSD as the boot drive anymore. The Mac Mini should be more powerful than your Macbook Air, but the IO is slower off the main drive.

I played with my Mini for all of about half an hour before I swapped in an extra SSD I had, and the difference is enormous. It came pre-installed with 10.8.3, and installing the update to 10.8.5 took less than 5 minutes with a reboot.

It depends on if you have "suspicious" files. Other then that, if you don't have anything to hide, you'd be good.
Test with an external SSD on USB 3.0 or TB. Hardly any difference in speed with an internal SSD and no risk in breaking anything.

I agree with everyone else. I bought a SSD for a boot drive for my first computer build 4 years ago and I could never ever go back. It was just some cheap, older/slower drive even back then. I upgraded to an 840 Pro and I refuse to buy anything else for my systems now. Wow does that thing haul. My gaming Windows system (Athlon II x3) boots in 9 seconds flat. Photoshop loads in 3-4 seconds. My i7 XPS laptop feels super sluggish in comparison as it runs off a 7200 RPM disk drive (wish I could afford an Evo drive for it). I can't wait to stick one in my new Mac Mini (still waiting for the refresh...).
