Rev A gaming (i know sounds stupid)

Ok here's the situation.

I'm currently selling my girlfriends 2007 (ish) white MacBook on craigslist for $700.

I am going to be giving her my SR MBP and I am going to get myself a rev A MBA because I need portability for school (mainly just coding in java) and I use a iMac at home.

My question is in the event that I'm not happy with the MBA, I'm going to give her the MBA and take back my MBP.

But the catch is that she plays the Sims 2 in Windows.

She can play the Sims just fine on her MB w/ 2.0ghz C2D 2GB of 667mhz RAM and the GMA950 graphics.

Now with the Rev A, it has the better X3100 graphics, same amount / speed of memory, but a slower CPU.

Do you think she will be just fine playing the sims on the rev A MBA?

FYI, I'm probably going to get the 1.8 / 80GB refurb.

Now I don't see much of the issues effecting me to much because I'm only going to be typing up code and taking notes. Maybe the occasional HD podcast here and there when I'm on a plane or something.

I have to agree with the other poster.

Do NOT buy the original MBA. Do yourself a favor and buy ANY OTHER Intel based Mac from the last three years.

I know 20 people in my circle of education and consulting clients who bought the original MBA the first three months it was introduced. Only ONE person still is using the original MBA a year later. That is a fact and not some random numbers pulled from my arse. It is an amazing statistic! I have never heard of an Apple product with such a terrible reputation and history.

It is not worth the headache, pulling apart your original MBA replacing thermal paste, installing Cool Book, and listening to fans whirl 24/7/365!

The deal is the original had a 20W Merom 65NM CPU. The new MBA has a 17W 45NM Penryn CPU... factor in all of the component changes and the rev B is a completely different Mac.

The rev B is a great computer, so are any other Macs. I would recommend ANY Mac other than the original MBA from last three years as a much better computer/value.

Good luck whichever route you go.

Avoid Rev A if you can. Go rev B or macbook.

I know...... Because I'm currently using it right now.

I ended up getting the 1.6 but I'm seriously considering returning it and getting the 1.8 ssd rev A because I didn't think the 4200rpm drive would be this slow.

I wish you luck with your purchase. But remember that if you go back to your MBP after a SSD, you'll think its 5400rpm drive is slower than molasses in july. If you find its not capable enough, return it while you can. If your not sure, try running the Sims 2 on it, and see if it will fall over dead or rise as a capable machine. Best of luck!

I ended up getting the 1.6 but I'm seriously considering returning it and getting the 1.8 ssd rev A because I didn't think the 4200rpm drive would be this slow.

My 4200RPM isn't slow? Maybe its just perspective because the majority of the things I do on my air relates to email/chat/web surfing. All my other pet projects run off my Mac Pro.

Ya I do the majority of my work on a iMac and my MBP had a 7200RPM drive in it too.

I think its just the spin up time that bugs me because I use spotlight as a app launcher. it pretty fast once it gets going though because I disable spotlight searching for anything other than applications.

I've got a 13 days to decide if I want to cough up the extra money though.

The rev B has hardware acceleration for HD films. The rev A does not, just like the older models of the MacBook and MacBook Pro too.
