I'm creating this thread to get an overall opinion on Rev. A Macs bought by members in this forum on reliability, happy stories, bad ones, and whether you guys think you were beta testers for the new revamped line. Is it worth it? This goes for all PPC owners and the new Intel iMac owners. Thanks

I have a Rev. A iMac G5 which has been fine. It is a little noisy, but not so bad that it distracts from the computing experience. Overall, I have been happy with my iMac G5.
My Powerbook G4 was also a Rev. A 15 in. Aluminum model and I have not had any issues with it other then having to replace a hard drive.

Rev A imac G4 (17" LCD G4 800mhz) again no trouble at all..
Rev B/C? imac G4 (20" G4 1.25ghz) no trouble..
Rev A PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8 (Jan 04) and in its first month one of the processors had to be replaced. Since then it's worked great with no trouble.
Rev A MacMini G4 1.42 - got two of them, one with the combo, one with superdrive.. Both work great.
Rev D Powerbook 12" 1.5ghz Jul 05 working perfect then I sold for a
Rev E Powerbook 15" 1.67ghz had the battery problems and white line screen..
Now waiting upon a Rev A iMac Duo 2Ghz....

Bought the first Blue & White G3/400 when it came out. It had its "flaws" that were later corrected in the following revisions, but it has ran fine since the day I bought it.
RevA 15" iMac G4 800MHz - no problems - great machine
RevA 12" iBook G4 800MHz - no problems - great machine
RevA 17" PowerBook 1GHz - bad battery and the logic board died - Apple replaced it with a RevB 17"" PowerBook 1.33GHz
RevA 17" iMac G5 1.8GHz - hard drive died - disk drive died (2X) - and logic board died - Apple replaced it with a RevC 17" iMac G5 1.9GHz
Either my wife or I have had every RevA of the changes to the iPod lineup with no problems.
Note: The only RevA's I still have are the RevA iPods with video d/t selling my machines and upgrading.

Rev.A G5 dual 2 (October 03) - wonderful system, no issues, faults, failures or concerns of any kind with it and it's been heavily used.
Rev.A mac mini 1.25 (January 05) - no problems.
After owning a few 'rev a' models over the years with no complaints so I'd have no hesitation in buying a new model if it met my needs.

2 Rev A G4 iMacs (800MHz) - still running strong, no problems
2 Rev A G5 iMacs - pieces of crap, garbage, garbage, garbage can not say enough bad things about them both HD crapped out and one video card, both had to be returned and 'fixed'. Still crap and still slow as molasses

I need stuff to work now, not 3 months from now as well as shelling out more $$$ for the uni versions, I think I spent enough on the ppc versions. I know I'll have an intel iMac in a few years, and by that time, it should be everything we hoped it would be.
-ps some guy bought my iMac G5 isight for his kid 2 days before the keynote, they announced the intels, the guy brought it back to the Apple store screaming at the employees that they should've told him about the new ones!
He paid the $170.00 restocking fee & left with an intel. I walked into the Apple store & got it for $400.00 less, Wow!

We have a revision A Mac Mini in fact most likely one of the first made. Its a rock! I wish my windows machine would be as reliable as that Mac! we leave it on for months,sleep it every night never a problem. My windows machine well we all know windows is crap. I look forward to the day Apple markets the great Mac OS to the world.
I have gotten two rev A iMacs.
Bondi Blue Rev A iMac (1998)
Rev A Intel Duo iMac (2006)

Because Apple hadn't worked out all of the design (and minimized chips and such) the rev a had the mezzanine slot which could allow someone to upgrade to a cable card to watch tv on the iMac. Also the rev a could have a processor upgrade. Currently I have upgraded that iMac's ram to 288 megs of ram and the hard drive to 20 gigs and it is running Mac OS 10.3 Server. If I hadn't gotten the rev a I would have lost out on some upgrade options, and besides it's a collectors item.

Rev A 17" iMac G5 - The constant fan noise makes it not fun to use. It was my present to my wife -and her first Mac- and she hates it.
Rev A 12" PowerBook, bought in the month they came out. It's been used every day for three years with no problems - the battery's at a cycle count of 1182, which gives you an indication of how much it's been used. My only issue was the power brick packed up after nine months, replaced under warranty.
I kinda think all this "avoid a rev A machine because it's gonna be a badly manufactured, badly designed beta testing rig" stuff is mainly a case of people jumping on the bandwagon - there's probably just as many duff Rev B machines out there (i.e. very few), they just don't get the publicity.

None of my macs have ever really had any problems:
- First mac: SE/30 (1991, Rev B) no problems
- Second mac: IIsi (1993, Rev a-ish of the color macs) no problems
- Third mac: Powermac 7200/90 (1995, Rev B-ish of the powermacs) no problems
- Fourth mac: Umax S900/225 (1997, Rev B of the clones) no real problems, drive door fell off eventually
- Fifth mac: Sawtooth G4/500 (1999 Rev B of the G4s) no problems
- Sixth mac: Quad G5 (2005, Rev A of the quads, but Rev D-ish of the G5s) no problems so far
All have been upgraded, overclocked, beat up, etc... and no real problems. Pretty amazing considering that I'm pretty much ready to turn pro at the sport of breaking work PCs (going on 7 PC laptops in 4 years - only 2 switches due to tech upgrades).

Rev A 15" Al powerbook. They had to replace the screen because of splotches but other than that it was really phenomenal.
Rev. A iBook G4/12", chugging along happily. About to be joined by a big sister (Artful Dodger's Rev B. iMac G5/17"). 
Rev A Power Mac Dual G5 2.0 purchased in October 2003. The only complaint I had was a chirping / squeaking type sound that came from somewhere in the bowels of the machine. It seems to have gone away. I assume from a software update somewhere along the way. The machine itself has been a real work horse. It handles everything I toss at it and it never skips a beat. I plan to hang on to it for a few more years.

That was probably the fans, I remember they releases a G5 firmware for the machines not too long into there lifetime..
I'm sitting here currently reinstalling OS X on a Rev A iBook G4 the thing has been returned 3 times to the shop, the latest was this week for another logic board break down, and to get the TFT replaced.

Rev A 20" iMac. No problems til 9 months on when the logic board started failing. Contacted my closest AASP, he e-mailed me when he got the part, drove up with it (they would have arranged pick-up, but this way was quicker), waited outside and was on my way home again in an hour.
No other problems (says she looking around for lots of wood to touch) and I've never regretted buying it.
