Rev "A" No Sound

My 9 month old Air (1.6/2GB/80GB- MB003B/A) suddenly lost it's audio this week after great service.
Checked System Preferences and all sounds were grey and no audio in/out showed. Then checked hardware - audio - also gone, apart from first line with number.
After searching this site for ideas, reset PRAM - still no sound, inserted ear jack a number of times - no luck.
So I took Air to nearest Apple store yesterday to see the "Genius" (Cambridge) who ran various diagnostics and came to the conclusion it was probably a hardware problem but not sure which part.
Interested to see him use an doctors type illuminated magnifier (the type they stuff in your ear) to check the audio jack hole before inserting audio lead. In the end he decided they needed to retain for repair and ordered the following parts to cover all possibilities :-
Logic board 1.6GHz
Speaker Assembly
Audio board
Audio board flex cable
(+) Hardware Repair Level 2 (whatever that means)

"Problem description: no sound, no audio device present"

Estimate 7 to 10 days to repair my Air then another trip to Cambridge to collect, it's a good job I am in the Lake District next week climbing so can manage without my baby.

It's also fortunate it is still in warranty as I have not got Applecare for it yet - was searching ebay last week for best deal !

I have this too on my rev a 1.8 SSD. Been without sound for a couple of months but can't find a time when i can manage without it for long enough to get a repair done.

I've heard of other owners with a similar problem where the culprit was a disconnected lead.

It's Home

Well just picked up my Air fully repaired and with no problems now

All the parts listed in first post were apparently needed, the Logic board being the largest bit (££) Total cost on the receipts was £412.85 but still in warranty so no problem.

I asked if I may have done anything to cause this problem and was told not at all it was "just one of those things" !!

As now less than 3 months till 1st years warranty runs out need to sort "Applecare" pronto as if this goes again it will be a p£ain.

you guys try resetting your PRAM?

shutdown your machine, and then on bootup hold option+command+P+R..

keep holding the keys until the display turns black again (after first chime) and then chimes again...
