Reverse scroll in Yosemite

System Preferences > Mouse, then turn off the confusingly-named "Scroll direction: natural". I have no idea why it isn't the default.
I quite like it
Personally I prefer the consistency of having it off (so that "down" on the keyboard and "down" on the mouse do the same thing), plus it's how every other OS does it. It'd drive me bonkers if there was no option, since I use Windows at work.
I speak from experience as it drives me nuts whenever I play an old PS2 game with reversed camera motion!
I guess I have a split personality regarding scrolling. ;-)
On a trackpad and iPad I use the "natural" scrolling direction. Not so with a mouse (wheel), I guess because of 9 to 5 PC usage I'm used to scrolling in the other direction. I use Scrollreverser from Pilotmoon, with this program you can set the scroll direction on an input device type basis.

Yes, they reversed the scroll direction to "natural" in Lion.

Actually it is done so you have a consistent experience when moving from or to with smart phones/tablets/iPads.

I suppose Apple thinks that inexperienced users (the ones that never touched a mouse before) would find it more 'natural' to scroll that way. If you think about it, it makes more sense from a clean-slate standpoint. Forget the scrollbar for a moment: when you 'scroll up' you are in fact pushing the content up. This makes sense, doesn't it?
Of course, the term 'natural' is debatable. It certainly isn't the common way of doing it and the existence of the scrollbar still gives a conflicting experience (people always look at it when scrolling, and it goes down while scrolling up).

On trackpads and touch screens it is natural. When I got my first smartphone (which was an iPhone) I started to use it without even glancing at the manual, they're not even supplied with one. The first time I tried to scroll I naturally motioned in the same direction as Apple calls 'natural'.
I purchased and used a Mac for the first time in 2012, again without ever having looked at a manual. It was a Macbook with trackpad. When I used it scrolling was more natural for me when setup as the default (ie what Apple calls 'natural').
When did Apple introduce a scroll wheel on their mice? Was Windows already established then? Maybe Microsoft taught you the unnatural way first?
I use Scrollreverser too because I want my mouse scroll wheel to work backwards.
A trackpad is not the same as a mouse though and Apple does support third-party mice as well. It used to have a mouse with a 'scroll-ball' too, the predecessor of the Magic Mouse. I think only iMacs are shipped with a mouse these days, and it's optional (you can choose the trackpad as well). It doesn't matter who came up with the scroll direction first, before Lion there was no such thing as 'natural scrolling'. Even Apple had the reverse scrolling by default until they changed course.
Unfortunately, you can't choose scrolling directions separately without third-part apps. If you disable it for your mouse, it will be turned off for the trackpad too.
Guys, i just ordered an iMac for the office and you know what, i ordered it with Mighty Mouse, i think i love that mouse, i believe its much more handy than the Magic Mouse, despite the latter has the ability to do more actions... u think im insane or not?

Just wait a couple of months until the trackball gets stuck very often. ;p
The scroll ball is simple to clean.
Damp paper towel (not dripping wet, just damp)
Unplug your mouse, then turn upside-down.
And, then do a few circles with the mouse on the paper towel, making sure that the scroll ball is in contact with the paper towel - about 10 seconds should do it.
That should fix common scroll ball issues
I already have had issues with a Mighty mouse and that way you describe didn't clean it! That case of mine, must have been worse because something hard had dropped in the scroll ball area, and it carved the ball, making it unusable now. I have written a thread about this issue and was asking how to replace the ball because this mouse is totally unusable and its a shame, all it needs is just a new track ball!

Trackpad or Magic Mouse for me, I'm not having another trackball ever.
