iPad Review: rooCASE 360 Dual View Detachable Case for iPad Air

I've been using this case for a few days now and I'm loving it so I wanted to share with my fellow iPad users.

This case looks very professional and is probably one of the best constructed case I've used thus far. This case comes in two pieces: Outer sleeve and detachable polycarbonate shell case.

The outer sleeve is made of "PU" Leather and has a nice quality feel to it and the inner lining is nice soft microfiber material. The stitching and overall craftsmanship is very good.

The detachable case is a rotatable (360 degree spin) polycarbonate case that allows portrait and landscape views when attached to the outer sleeve. It has two built in "kickstands" similar to the ones you find on the bottom of computer keyboards so that you can prop it up for a typing view. There is an elastic hand strap so that you can hold it securely when detached. It has a soft material inside the case to prevent scratches to the back of your iPad as well.


What stands out to me the most is the viewing angle mechanism that is used. Other cases I've used had "grooves" where the iPad just sits on each groove to change viewing angles. I never really thought it was extremely sturdy. However, this case has a pattern of little rubbery dots instead that holds the iPad in whatever viewing angle you set it at. I was playing games for about an hour and iPad didn't even budge from its position. This is my favorite feature of this case.

It comes with all your standard features such as sleep/wake, magnetic closure so it stays closed, and all the cut outs for microphones/cameras/buttons/speakers. Also has three slots for business cards and other similar sized objects you'd like to carry around with your iPad.

I thought this was a great find for me so I wanted to "spread the wealth"

There's a magnet closure mechanism between the detachable shell case and the little flap that holds the front closed so that it doesn't open up when you're carrying it around.

I would like to add some of my thoughts to the above review for those thinking about this case:

1. RooCase and other case makers really need to address and resolve the glue smell issue. I do think that smell will ever leave the product. At the very least is should be the scent of leather.

2. Dont underestimate the weight of the outer folio (8+oz). Its overtly big and heavy and it just does not need to be. Because of its thickness, which makes that bending seam too thick, it does not sit flat on the back side. Minor I suppose but the case can be thinner and there is no excuse for it not to be. BTW…the closure piece does keep the top part of the case closed so as to not continually trigger the magnetic open/close.

3. The inner case (that clicks onto the iPad) is nicely done, and light. The popup feet and strap are very nice touches.

The case looks interesting, I like the idea of a detachable hull for the iPad Air. I don't want it in a case all the time, but I do want a case and don't want to be taking in out of one hull and putting it in another.

I just got a case for €10 but while I like the rotation aspect of it, I'm not a fan of how it feels folded back.
