A few days ago I obtained a Mac Mini 2011 (A1347) working with latest MacOS Sierra. I decided to swap out the drive with a Samsung Evo to get performance gains over slower 2.5" standard HDD. I decided against cloning the drive and went with a new install, instead I used a USB drive flashed with MacOS Sierra. To be clear it booted correctly with the old drive.
Half way through the install the screen standbys, 10 minutes later I tried power cycling. The boot starts off with a chime, Apple logo and a progress bar that reaches 75% before the screen goes totally grey with no text or cursor. Booting using the USB and recovery partition (old drive) & internet recovery shows the same symptoms. Tested with multi HDMI cables and mini displayport.
Extended diagnostics returns no errors. Could this be a badly flashed EFI image?
Has anyone seen this type of problem before
